well my water pump is bad and i need to change it. that's basically it. i would take it to a repair shop but i like learning things on my own.How to change a water pump in a 1989 Honda Civic?
have u try looking on the repair manuals that they have at the auto store's also remember that Pump is timing belt driven on this kind of cars, it is recommended to replace the timing belt with the replacement of the water pump. *** Extended life antifreeze is highly recommended with this aluminum pump. *** good luckHow to change a water pump in a 1989 Honda Civic?
I'm pretty sure in the 1989 it is the same as most of the 1990s. The timing belt has to come off. Once it is that far there are only a few bolts to go. Be sure to use a new timing belt when you reassemble.

The big hassle there is getting the crankshaft pulley off. The bolt will make you cry - see the source.
Go to Pep Boys and get a book that will have your car year and model on it and show you how to fix it. I forget the name of the book but go in and ask them where the car books are and they will show you. Trust me these books will help you with everything on your car.
