It is an easy pump to change but I would recommend getting a manual at the bookstore or parts house before attempting it for the first time. The manual will have step by step information and illustrations to help. Can anyone tell me how to change a water pump on a 88 chevy caprice?

Thanks for the helpDo u have to change the water pump, belt , etc around 100 000 miles in a 2001 civic and how much does it cost?
Under normal conditions, replace the timing belt at intervals
of 110,000 miles or every 84 months.
If the vehicle is operated at ambient temperatures
under 20掳F or above 110掳F, replace at 60,000 mile
intervals.
Parts: $19 - $28
Timing Belt
Labor: $227 - $289

It sounds a little high to me! you can call other shops and ask for an estimate, ask everyone you know for recommendations or ask at some of the auto parts stores for a recommendation for a good honest mechanic!
other items that may be changed at this time are the other drive belts, water pump belt, alternator belt, ect, but this should not add much to the cost because they need to come off anyhow to get to the timing belt! Water pump should not need changed unless it is bad!Do u have to change the water pump, belt , etc around 100 000 miles in a 2001 civic and how much does it cost?
it sounds about right and very late actually, honda recommends that be done at 80,000 miles. you could do it your self, but if you have no experience do not risk it.
You should check your owner's manual for Honda's mileage recommendation. Your timing belt may suggest around 90,000 to 100,000 depending on driving conditions. A new timing belt is about $35 from your local auto parts store.
Although the timing belt wraps around the water pump pulley, the water pump should be inspected first not replaced without a reason.
If there are traces of coolant leaking behind the pulley, the water pump should be replaced ($40 from your local auto parts store). If there are traces of coolant leaking along the edges of the water pump gasket, only water pump gasket should be replaced (just $4 from your local auto parts store).
Since it is more difficult to determine the condition of the timing belt tensioner, it may be a good idea to replace the timing belt tensioner ($60 from your local auto parts store) .
If express lube charges $500 for this job, then they're pocketing about $365 for labor. I would consider $150 labor charge more reasonable.

If you save yourself money and buy these parts yourself, the rest is labor charge if you don't have the tools. Shop around for the best shop on installation cost.
Good luck!

Changing water pump on 2.4L Sunfire?
My car needs a new water pump, obviously.
How long of a job do you think I'm getting myself into? I don't want to take it to a garage unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. My boyfriend and I both have very good knowledge on vehicles, and I am pretty certain the 2 of us can do it ourselves.
It's a 2.4L, and from what I've read the pump is much harder to change in this than a 2.2L. How long do you think it will take, assuming we have all of the correct tools?Changing water pump on 2.4L Sunfire?
that's the quad four engine. i've seen mechanics have difficulty replacing them. you have to take down the timing chain to change the water pump. i would strongly reccomend that you take it to a pro. Its not a job for just anyone with some auto knowledge. And you're looking at paying 700- 800 dollars at a shop. people don't realize this when they buy a quad 4 engine. they're gr8 until you have to fix them.Changing water pump on 2.4L Sunfire?
Ok tools is not the problem on this one. I ihgly reccommend taking this one to a shop. I know Master Technicians that hate doing this job. If I'm not mistaken that one is ran by the timing chain. That is one of the HARDEST water pumps that we have ever ran into. I know the time is off but I'm wanting to say that one was a 8-9 hr. job as far as tech time. Which means most anyone that isn't familar with that will probaly double. Besides you're playing with the chain and that is no joke. A lot of shops will even turn down that one. It's the 2.4 Quad. One of the worth designs for engine repair GM ever came up with. Good Luck! and be careful!

about two to four hours maybe depending on mechanic and how busy the shop is and before you go and start replacing water pump if its not leaking its not bad yet and most likely will be a bad pulley or belt tension-er which go bad before water pump most of time you can spray water or wd40 on pulley to check if motor not running hot and you dont see any coolant coming from water pump most likey not bad belt tension-er pulley cost about 30 bucks anyone can replace in about 30 minutesHow do i change the water pump on a 2000 s-10 4.3 litter 4wheel drive with air conditioning?
Spray some water on the belt while it's schreeching to rule the belt out. They often make noise, even when tight.

How much does it cost to change a water pump on a 2005 chevy trailblazer?
here you go Heather, If you have the 5.3 liter engine, the price for the new pump, $$96.89 Labor would be 3.8 hours to replace. Most shops charge from $ 60-80 per hour. Dealers More. If you have a 4.3 liter engine, Part is $65.00 labor would be 3.3 hours. So it should cost about $362.89 plus tax for the 5.3 engine %26amp; $296.00 plus tax for the 4.3 engine. the 5.3 is a V-8 and 4.3 is a V-6 . You and find your engine size , if you do not know if it is a 6 or 8 cyl. by looking at the small white sticker under the hood compartment. I hope this will give you a better idea. Good Luck! :)How much does it cost to change a water pump on a 2005 chevy trailblazer?
Just labor would be around $50.-$75.How much does it cost to change a water pump on a 2005 chevy trailblazer?
the pump ita self is around 50-60 bucks and probably 200-300 to install replace antifreeze etc
parts cost hmm...just the pump about 80ish. replace hoses also about 15 more. labor about 70. so 165 if you get it done by some1 at a shop???
Depends on where you go, usually the time is around 1 hr to 1.5 (figure labor rate of your shop) and your pump and gasket price. Also if you want a heavy duty unit. To be fair I would need an engine size. I think the 6 is a little cheaper then the 8. Also they will need to coolant change and bleed out your system which usually that's around $80 at least in my area. I do them for around 160 to 500 depending on what it's in. Your pump is going to be around 45$ if they want more, look at your local parts store or shop ( RockAuto.com )
go to yoour nearest auto zone plop down about thirty nine dollar,s go to your nearrest garage and they will install it for about fifty buck,s

How long does it take to change the water pump on a dodge 3.8 do you have to move the ac?
Well according to Mitchell on demand the labor charge is an hour. Which is not much at all. A do it yourselfer could handle this job. I believe there are 5 or 6 bolts that hold it in. The water pump is all the way at the bottom of the engine. How long does it take to change the water pump on a dodge 3.8 do you have to move the ac?
thanks dog you were about right. remove passenger wheel, wheel well cover and voila. except don't break the factory 10mm bolts off in the timing cover. they are factory loctited. sucks.
